A last-kick-of-the-game Diego Fagundez header meant the Sounders had to settle with a 2-2 draw in New England.
Seattle was within seconds of their first victory in eight MLS matches when Fernando Cárdenas’ crossed, it was missed by its intended target Saer Sene but Fagundez was behind to head in the equalizer.
Sigi Schmid said: “I was pleased with how we responded in the first half, in the second half, and we did what we had to do.”
The Sounders fell behind early in the game by a Saer Sene goal which looked suspiciously offside.
In the 12th minute Blake Brettschneider, after some lucky bounces, fired the ball across the box for Saer Sene to finish from a couple of yards out. As he wheeled of in celebration the Sounders’ defence were expecting to see the linesman’s flag.
Seattle were not behind for long when, in the 23rd minute, Mauro Rosales picked up the ball on the left side and floated a delightful ball towards the back post finding the on-rushing Eddie Johnson to fire the header past Reis.
And, Eddie Johnson completed his brace in the 35th minute. Another inch-perfect cross, this time by Marc Burch, eluded Reis and EJ leaped highest at the back post to turn the ball home once again.
The lead was almost extended further when Eddie Johnson almost became the provider in the 65th minute. He created space down the right side and his cross found Osvaldo Alonso at the far post but his header went high.
The game finished a respectable 2-2 but Seattle’s injury concerns continue to plague the squad. Adam Johansson returned to the starting line-up in this game but Andrew Weber was forced to leave the game at half time suffering from a groin injury, forcing Sigi to bring Meredith on in his replacement.
After the game, Seattle’s Osvaldo Alonso said: “”We just stayed thinking positively and we played with energy, we played with passion.
“We know we are team that’s able to play good soccer and beat that team. We came back and we scored two goals and unfortunately they scored in the last minute, and we’re just disappointed in that”
The Sounders are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face Real Salt Lake in Rio Tinto Stadium, Utah.
